Sex = Purely biological. It is assigned at birth (male, female, intersex) based on chromosomal makeup.
Gender = Social or legal status. The societal expectations of an individual based on socially-constructed norms.
Gender identity/expression = How one feels about themselves and how they express those feelings (can be through clothing, behaviors, appearance, etc.)
Cisgender = When assigned sex at birth matches gender identity/expression.
Nonbinary = An umbrella term used to describe individuals who do not identify exclusively as male or female identities.
Transgender = An umbrella term used for individuals who do not identify with the assigned sex at birth.
LGBTQQIA+ = Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and the “plus” to signify all of the gender identities adn sexual orientations that letters and words cannot yet fully describe.
